The wear-resistant particles inside our composite welding rods for petroleum industry are Crushed Sintered Cemented Carbide (WC-Co) Grit, also known as broken YG grade tungsten carbide particles.
This type of WC-Co carbide particle is made by sintering WC powder with cobalt binder, then crushing and sieving into irregular granular shapes. It belongs to sintered cemented carbide, different from cast tungsten carbide. The most common grade is YG8, with excellent wear resistance and moderate impact toughness.
These sintered carbide particles are embedded into copper-nickel alloy matrix to make YD-type composite surfacing welding rods. Together with our cemented carbide wear-resistant blocks, they are widely used for hardfacing repair and lining protection of oilfield wear parts, such as pipeline elbows, pump housings, valves, drill stabilizers and milling shoes.
Compared with cast tungsten carbide, sintered WC-Co particles have better impact resistance, less tendency to crack under alternating impact and erosion conditions in petroleum slurry conveying and drilling operations.
